Saying that the two greatest influences on him were probably Satie and Stravinsky, "although I should be hard put to prove such a statement," that he abandoned the writing of music when he moved to Morocco in 1947, after which he wrote only theatre scores, asking how a young composer would have heard Bowles's music, or, for that matter, "how he would even have heard of me," etc.
